Tribulus is a natural nutrient extracted from the Tribulus terrestris plant. The plant, which grows in Hawaii, Eastern Europe, India and Africa, has been used in these areas for centuries.
The active ingredients in tribulus are special secondary plant substances called saponins. Saponins (from the Latin sapo, meaning soap) are water-soluble natural glycosidic substances that are often found in other plants such as beans, asparagus or soy. The main active component of tribulus is the saponin protodioscin, a steroid-like compound. Thanks to its effect on the concentrations of luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), protodioscin can, among other things, maintain free testosterone levels in men and support progesterone levels in women.
Sport
Tribulus has been shown to be an extremely effective micronutrient in supporting energy and endurance during athletic activities in both men and women. It acts both directly and indirectly on muscle fibres, and can also support the maintenance of normal androgen levels here.
In addition, tribulus can help support sodium balance.
If the absorption of saponins through the diet is not sufficient or there is an increased need, these nutrients can be supplemented through special food supplements.
