Serotonin (5-HT = 5-hydroxytryptamine) is an important neurotransmitter in the brain that is associated with feelings of pleasure, among other things. Since the serotonin level in the blood rises soon after eating carbohydrate-rich food, the almost addictive craving for something sweet in the case of serotonin deficiency is quite understandable.
Our nerve cells produce serotonin in a two-step process, starting with the amino acid tryptophan, which enters the body through food. In the nerve cells, the tryptophan is then converted into 5-hydroxytryptophan and then into serotonin. Serotonin itself cannot be absorbed in considerable quantities through food because it is broken down in the intestine. Serotonin was discovered 50 years ago and only later identified as a neurotransmitter of the central nervous system.
A balanced combination of plant extracts, vitamins and trace elements that act at different levels can help maintain a normal weight and counteract excessive calorie intake:
Griffonia Simplicifolia: The African black bean can help regulate appetite and reduce the desire for food. It serves as a natural source of 5-hydroxytryptophan, from which the body can later produce serotonin itself.
Plant extracts from coffee beans (caffeine) and guarana can help to increase energy consumption. However, the increase in energy consumption then also causes an increased need for vitamins, such as vitamin C, B1 and B6.
Vitamin B1 contributes to normal energy metabolism, vitamin B6 to normal protein and glycogen metabolism. Vitamin C increases iron absorption and also contributes to normal energy metabolism. Chromium also contributes to the maintenance of normal blood sugar levels.
These ingredients can also be effective in maintaining a positive state of mind, which can support positive weight management.
